This year, the wave of appeals looks like a tsunami. According to state tax data, approximately 111,000 appeals were filed prior to the deadline, which was April 1 for most property owners. That total, is up 27 percent from last year, and represents a nearly five-fold increase in appeals from 2007. In Monmouth County, appeals are up 26 percent, while Ocean County saw a 66-percent spike.
