Home Prices Show Big Picture Still Gloomy

U.S. home prices rose 0.2% in August but declined 3.8% on an annual basis according to the S&P/Case-Shiller 20 city composite index which was released Tuesday.  Another monthly index released on the same day by the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) said home prices slipped 0.1% on a seasonally adjusted basis, and 4.0% over the prior year.  The FHFA home price index has not seen a rise in home prices since 2007.
